Stevie Nicks 2006 Australia/New Zealand tour FAN REVIEWS

2/18/06 Rod Laver Arena Melbourne, AU -

Yasmin
Hey Stevie, My names Yasmin and im 13 and from Adelaide but went to the Melbourne 'gost dust tour' concert.(which by the way was totally amazing!) the whole time you performed it was like every single person in the room was having the best time of there lives! every song you played was just beautifully done and am so greatful that you came to Australia again. (and hopefully you will come again, and again!) My favourite songs that you performed were 'outside the rain', 'edge of 17', 'landslide','rhiannon'and of course, the outstanding ' beauty and the beast'. i loved the backdrop on the screen for beauty and the beast and rhiannon! you have been an inspiration to me for the past 3 years and i was exited to know that you came to the melbourne cup last year! i was like ' oh my god, im in the same country as stevie!' all my friends were like, 'thats so like Yas'. overall, that concert was the best moment of my life and i would love it if you came back again soon.

(p.s loved that you had to sing 'outside the rain' and 'dreams' again! Exellent Stevie!)

I am an American who visited Australia to see a couple of Stevie's concerts. I first saw Fleetwood Mac in 1977 and have since seen them and Stevie at least 75 times over the years. Seeing her perform an entire concert with an orchestra behind her was amazing. The show was basically the same as the US tour last year. Being the first show of this tour and having it taped for a DVD, Stevie seemed happy and relaxed, and her voice was very strong. As has already been reported, they had to do the first two songs over at the end of the concert due to technical problems. That was fun for everyone, even Stevie seemed to enjoy it. The only thing wrong was that the sound mixer had her band amplified up as high as usual, but the orchestra was not amplified enough. Only on the ballads could you even hear the orchestra playing. And they were great, they played an entirely different arrangement to "Beautiful Child" than Fleetwood Mac does. And the orchestra sounded wonderful on "Beauty & The Beast" and "Landslide". I was really excited to hear the string arrangements on songs like "Dreams", "Rhiannon", "Stand Back" & "Edge of Seventeen". But you could not hear the orchestra at all on the rock songs. They were all playing, you just couldn't hear them over the sound of her band, who always sound terrific. I hope that when they go into the studio to mix the DVD they will bring the orchestra up in the mix. It really was too bad this happened and a lot of people at the concert were saying the same thing after the show ended. Stevie was fantastic, and I also went to the Sydney show and she was even better, having done three shows in between. Cheers from down under!

I have seen Stevie perform with Fleetwood Mac on 3 occasions in Adelaide. We went to Melbourne not wanting to miss the joining of Stevie and band with the MSO. I had seen the MSO many years before with Elton John so I knew it was always going to be a very special concert. This show exceeded my expectations and for those who missed it, get the DVD (p.s. loved the fact we got the bonus songs, I would have stayed longer!!). I could not believe the passion and effort in delivery in everyones performance. Waddy, what a man!!! How was "Rock and Roll" ? !!! If you could have seen the crowd I shared the concert with. Many people left so overwhelmed from the experience with some even crying. Stevie, I am somewhat lost for justifiable words except thank you for a show I will never forget. I have been a fan since the mid 70's and your music has been a source of comfort and strength during the phases of my life. I was overwhelmed when you presented "Beautiful Child" as Tusk was a special album for me (as much as I loved the previous albums). I agreed with the comment on the souveniers, I would have paid a big premium for an exclusive Melbourne Stevie / MSO souvenier. However the money I never spent there now has been put to an Adelaide concert ticket (I have a very understanding wife). I agree with the "I can't wait" and "Talk to me" comment. Stevie I know you probably don't change your set lists but would be gratefull if either of these above, or "Silver Springs"or "Rooms on fire" could be considered please. Silver Springs has always been very special to me when since I first discovered it on the other side of the Go Your Own Way single as a teenager. I am gratefull you successfully got its rightfull place and recognition in Fleetwood Macs playlists - thanks for your effort. Just a comment for Vanessa, keep at it. You are on the right track with such a great advocate as Stevie near you. In closing thanks to you Stevie and your team in giving me a significant memory of my life. I am looking forward to the Adelaide concert now, take care, enjoy the tour, see you there. "if our paths never cross", it will always be - yours sincerely.

The only thing I can honestly say is, “WOW” From the moment the concert started to finish (2Hrs later) I was lost! Lost in dream/trance, the music, the sound, the vision and the heart felt melody was beyond my magical dream ….. and, it was exactly where I wanted to be… THANKYOU! THANKYOU! THANKYOU!!!
Fiona
Stevie Nicks was superb!! - and has always been! Every moment of Stevie's performance was sheer beauty, perfection and joy. You transported me back to my late teen's (I'm 48 years old). I especially thank you for coming to Australia because I know you miss your dogs sooooooo much! Thank you Stevie also for allowing me to discover "Sulamith Wulfing".

Stevie's performance at Melbourne's Rod Laver Arena on Saturday blew me away. Her pairing with the MSO was a beautiful experience and will make a fantastic DVD which I can't wait for. She absolutely rocked during Fall From Grace and the way she twirled through Stand Back was mind blowing. Such energy, beauty and grace for a woman of 57. I have tickets for the upcoming Newcastle and Sydney gigs as well and can't wait to be front row at Newcastle. Thank you Stevie for the most amazing concert of my life. I certainly hope it won't be another 20 years until your next solo tour down under. Just a short thank you to Vanessa Carlton for her gorgeous performance prior to Stevie. Beautiful songs and a truly beautiful person. She is a brilliant talent and truly look forward to seeing her again in Newcastle and Sydney.

well where do i start....i flew from a remote outback indigenous community in arnhem land NT, to darwin, then down to melbourne to see the best female singer/ songwriter in the world. As we now live in an amazing technological world, i was able to purchase 4th row tickets for myself and 3 of my high school friends, whom i have been friends with for 25 years, all the way from outback NT.......gone are the days of sleeping outside the comedy theatre in melbourne to try and get a good seat for the fleetwood mac tour of 87! Missed vanessa carlton, because we were outside reminiscing about how stevie had influenced our lives...when the lights went down we rushed to our seats to see a version of stevie we havent seen here in australia for a long time (melbourne cup excluded)......she was HOT!......how good did she look.....how good did she sound......amazing...it was such a great night, different highlights for all of us....Rhiannon, Dreams, Has Anyone ever written anything for you, landslide, .......we found ourselves holding eachothers hands etc....as approval that what we were witnessing was something special.....then came the rock songs....stand back, rock and doll etc.....fabulous....we were a tad dissapointed that we didnt get to hear "i cant wait", and "talk to me", as these were big hits in australia and would have been fab with the orchestra, .......sara would have been special....but stevie......NEXT TIME! - you must come back, at least for the melbourne cup carnival every year, it wont be the same without you... Beauty and the beast was incredibly moving, sung with such passion by a woman who lives her life through her music, which is what all of us non musical people do....live through stevies music....thank you so much....we really do appreciate you coming here, and please come back soon, you know we will be there for you.....a poet.....a preist of nothing.....

I experienced the Stevie Nicks phenomenon on the 18th. February and it has been a truly magical experience. Her voice was haunting and her presence was surreal. I still can't quite believe that I was so completely entranced by the whole show. The only disappointment? That she wasn't playing a second night! An experience that I will truly always remember and well worth the AU$170.

Thank you Stevie for an absolutely breathtakingly, beautiful show. We smiled, we danced, we cried and cried, and we rocked. In respect to my parents and grandparents, you have been the single greatest inspiration to me artistically, musically, and stylistically throughout my life. I am also a musician having played covers, my own material, and have had the honour of performing in a Fleetwood Mac show. Thankyou for your music, your art. My husband and I flew to Melbourne from Newcastle in NSW specifically for your show. Infact, we sold our second car so we could attend your Melbourne show and take the whole family to the Newcastle show this Friday night. It was our first time flying. You are the only person who could get me on a plane. Thank you also for being the soundtrack to our lives and our 20 year marriage. Fleetwood Mac actually saved our marriage at the 2004 Newcastle show. Eternal thanks, Stevie. Hope we can meet you sometime and thank you in person. We love you. You're an amazing lady. You rock.

Hi, just a note to say how wonderful Stevie's show was!!! Vanessa Carlton was the supporting act and she was amazing and brave, she sat all alone playing piano, she was funny and entertaining. When Stevie arrived the place went insane, my friend Helen and I had the best seats. Fav. songs for the night were Enchanted, Rhiannon (which sounded exactly like the 1980 live version) and Stand Back, just to name a few. What a pleasure it was to have her sister-in-law Lori on backing vocals. It was a show that we didn't want to end, in fact Stevie repeated the first two songs, what a bonus. Looking forward to the DVD. Thanks heaps Stevie.

I travelled to Melbourne from Adelaide and joined my Sydney Fleetwood Mac friends Steve and Mel (thanks guys for your friendship and sharing the concert with me!) for Stevie’s concert with the MSO…..it was well worth the trip. Each song was a highlight and the proposed DVD will be a great memento of the night for me and a great opportunity for anyone else who was not able to attend this once in a lifetime night……Loved Stevie and her band’s sound. Also her various costume changes. Highlight for me was her opening – costume and songs. Also loved the way Stevie rocked out in “Rock And Roll”. This song was a huge surprise. Was fabulous to see Lori again (it’s taken me 20 years to see her again). As others have mentioned, Stevie’s merchandise was a disappointment – I also went “cashed” up with great anticipation but was very disappointed. Now onto Newcastle and Sydney this weekend and finally her last Aussie concert – my home town – Adelaide next Thursday 2nd March.

Upon hearing that Stevie Nicks was performing a concert on her own, I made no hesitation to attend the Melbourne show, travelling from Perth. I was not disappointed. Stevie was brilliant as I knew she would be, the band was fantastic and the orchestra added that additional uniqueness to something I thought I would never get to see - a Stevie Nicks concert. I now await the Perth show with much eagerness and the release of the DVD of the Melbourne concert knowing that I was there! Thank you so much Stevie.

Hi. My name's Glen Preston from Melbourne. I just wanted to let everyone in Australia and New Zealand know what sheer artistry and brilliance the Melbourne Stevie Nicks concert was. I first saw Fleetwood Mac in 1978 and again 2 years ago...but Saturday nights performance was magic unfolding...the woman is ageless..the voice..no surperlatives can describe. It rocked..moved..touched. Superb Stevie, you've got the goods!

Stevie, the first time i saw u play was in melbourne for the say you will tour. I am only 19 but i have been raised on your music. My mum and i made the trip in 2004 from adelaide to melbourne however, this time my dad and i made the tirp. It was with mixed emotional feelings that i watched you perform as my mum passed away suddenly last year. You were such an inspiration to her and i was so proud to see you up on stage once again, and that my dad could be a part of it. You looked beautiful, and your voice was sensational, i sang along to every word. Thank you stevie for a fantastic show, and the support over the last few months. Even if you dont know it.
Melinda
i attended the show in melbourne. her voice sounded fantastic but the band overpowered the orchestra completely. only four songs stood out to me where the orchestra could be heard. they were beautiful child, landslide, beauty and the beast and if anyone falls. overall lots of energy and she looked great. yes, the merchandise was poor, not much to choose from, boring, and expensive. mel
Jennifer
The reviews i read in the melbourne newspapers were incorrect and unfair. I have been a fan since i was seventeen, and Stevie's music and band are still in my life. The moment the band hit the stage and Stevie began to sing, i never stopped dancing all night and tried to get to the front quite a few times. Regardless of all the heavy handed security officers, i managed to keep on 'rockin' with other girls in the audience. I've got one question to ask; 'When did dancing die out at rock concerts?' I'm in shock that people don't dance anymore. Good on ya Stevie and band members... The words and music still shine through
Lin
Stevie, when I was 14 I took my first pay packet from my first job down to the record store and bought Bella Donna. Your music really is the soundtrack to my life. Saturday night was magical and you showed Melbourne just how special you are. It was one thrill after another, you could do no wrong. We couldn't take our eyes of you..you were indeed enchanting! We walked outside at the end of the night and all too soon were back to reality, grateful for the memory.
Annie
Seeing you perform again Stevie was so amazing, I love the way you tell your stories. It's with such passion you can never get tired of hearing them in your songs, which by all means I loved hearing the 1st 2 songs again. I always knew that with you music the MOS would just fit in so well, how fantastic !! I was taken in by your band and the whole performance that time just flew. You are an absolute angel to watch and hear,. Thank you so much for coming to Melbourne Australia and letting us be a part of what will be a brilliant DVD. Anyone who missed the show, the DVD is must to get when it comes out. Thank you again, Take Care and please come back and bless us with your enchanting spirit.

I had the privelege of attending Rod Laver Arena on 18/02/06 and being mesmerized by Stevie Nicks accompanied by both her band and the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra..I first saw Stevie with Fleetwood Mac back in '79 and I'm pleased to say 27 years later, she still delivers a powerful performance..From the moment she walked onto the stage, complete with top hat and platform boots, the audience knew they were in for something special, and something special it was! Age has certainly not wearied her as she twirled around the stage in her various outfits and belted out the songs - if it's at all possible, I think Stevie might even be improving with age! I'm happy to say that STEVIE STILL ROCKS!!!

A friend and I took our partners to see Stevie Nicks with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, at the Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne on Saturday 18th February, 2006. While my friend and I have been adoring fans for 30 years, our partners basically came along for the ride and were somewhat dubious about going to the concert with us as they don't appreciate Stevie's music. However, the outcome was one of absolute delight not just for my friend and I, but also for our partners who were utterly spellbound by Stevie's performance. This says a lot to me about her craft and talent, in terms of being able to enchant people who are not fans. I was captivated by the entire show and look forward to the DVD as others have mentioned. The inclusion of Beautiful Child in the playlist brought tears to my eyes given the emotional presence of Stevie's voice. I agree with David Ward who referred to the merchandising, as my friend and I were thoroughly disappointed with what was available, despite the fact that we were cashed up and wanting to splurge our money. It's been about twenty years since I first and last saw Stevie live in concert, and still her performances reach deep into my heart.
Debra
Hi everybody, well what a magical night in melb at stevies concert. she looked great sounded the best i have ever heard her sing and the band with the orchestra was fantastic. i was lucky enough to be on the floor eight rows from the front and i danced and sang the entire night. i was lucky to meet stevie up at the stage where i gave her my flower. she thanked me for wearing my top hat and shawl and then i thanked her and she thanked me again i gave waddy the thumbs up and he gave me a huge smile and a nod of the head . i have been a fan since i was fourteen so you can imagine how excited i was. i would like to say thank you to the lady sitting in front of me because i kept banging her when i was dancing and she was so gracious about it, sort of new that i had to be doing what i was doing. i cant thank andrew mcmanus enough for bringing her out here and to waddy for producing a super show-cant wait for the dvd-i might get lucky. i want to say a big thank you to the crowd as the atmosphere was electric and worthy of a stevie concert.and to all you stevie melbourne fans-do not break the chain xo

I travelled from Perth to see Stevie with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and was truly honoured to be a part of it. The song choices were perfect, a few of my favourites were there - Gold Dust Woman, Has Anyone Ever Written Anything.., Edge of Seventeen & Beautiful Child. The entire performance was amazing but Beauty and the Beast really stands out - the costume and visual effects added to the mystical atmosphere. An unexpected performance of "Rock 'n' Roll" was great. The images on the rear screen added a final touch to the show and of course the vocals just go without saying. I can't wait till next week for the Perth show. So rock on Stevie & don't stop.

At Last.....Stevie has come along. Mesmerising, awesome and we are left enchanted. The first night of the tour was truly amazing. Stevie seemed relaxed, refreshed from the Say You Will Tour, talkative, energetic and in fine voice. She was BRILLIANT. It was such a surprise when she performed the classic Led Zeppelin tune "Rock & Roll". The audience were brought to tears on many occasions particularly during Beautiful Child, Has Anyone Ever Written Anything for You and Beauty and the Beast ~ beautifully complimented by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra with the movie as the backdrop, it was a magical combination of sight & sound. It was fantastic to see & hear Waddy and Lori, they were, as always, superb. Edge of Seventeen was wonderful (thankyou Stevie for holding my hand ~ I will die happy now). Thank God for the breakdown in technology, we got to hear Outside the Rain and Dreams all over again. Stevie, at 57 you are an inspiration. Can't wait to March 2nd in Adelaide to see & hear you again. Come back again, please, we love you. xxx

Absolutely amazing performance! Stevie you are trully a legend. This is the 4th time that I have had the absolute privelege of experiencing Stevie live in concert, and let me tell you she just keeps getting better and better. Saturday night's performance at the Rod Laver Arena was totally enrapturing and without a doubt, the most spectacular that I have ever witnessed. It was, almost, a religious experience for me as I sobbed to a heartfelt "Beautiful Child" and rocked on to "Stand Back". Stevie puts so much emotion into her performance that I felt as though I was experiencing these many and diverse emotions with her. Stevie thankyou so much for giving so much-you are so dedicated to your music and you bring so much joy to my life. I love you, and I hope to have the pleasure of seeing you again one day.Rock on, Stevie!

I am awestruck once again, Thank You Stevie. We went to Melbourne last night, to see our friend It's been a while since me and my 'Beautiful Child' saw here last 2 years have gone by, 'Much has gone by... Since then' And It always seems to go so fast. With Fleetwood Mac, she wasn't the same I always love to see her 'Go Her Own Way' She spreads her wings I know that's her game. But here she was all dressed in chiffon and lace She was even in pants! That was a sight that will never 'Fall From Grace' I must say she did 'Rock n Roll' so true I never will forget all the woo hoooo!!! In her flowing dresses and her boots so fine She glided around the stage And belted her voice As always, divine. 'If Anyone Falls' at the 'Edge of Seventeen' They wouldn't know much about her 'Dreams' 'Rhiannon' so fine, 'Enchanted' with a smile I bet a 'Landslide' would help you fall back in time! If you 'Stand Back' and think What this 'Sorcerer' would say Somewhere 'Outside The Rain' The sun is shining on another day. Maybe she'd write another song for you 'Has Anyone Ever Written' a song or two? Ok, she says, 'Stop Draggin' My Heart Around' Its time to be the 'Beauty and the Beast' And get this "Gold Dust Woman' off to town So here she was For the first night of the tour A dvd will play So we can love you again, too! So thank you Stevie and your entire band Thank you to Melbourne Symphony Orchestra And a big thanks to the DVD man (For forgetting to tape the first 2 songs, and nevertheless, much to our approval, had to re-sing them again.. :) So If I never get see you again I will be blessed with these memories Of Fleetwood Mac, and with your band And how lovely it was to see you In Melbourne again. My 30 yearlong love.
Chris Hormann
It's been two years since I last saw Stevie, in Sydney, when the Mac were touring Say You Will. I wasn't quite sure what to expect from this concert though I still made th trek form New Zealand to see her and the short answer is, I was blown away. From the opening bars of Outside The Rain, the crowd went wild and Stevie proceeded to have us eating out of her hand for the following two hours. Accompanied by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, the band sounded fresh, vibrant and the sound mix was fantastic. The MSO came into their own on the ballads (Has Anyone Ever Written?, Rhiannon, Landslide and in a welcome return to the set, Beautiful Child), while the rock numbers had the crowd on their feet - If Anyone Falls, Edge of Seventeen, Stop Draggin', Fall From Grace. Highlights from the set, outside of the aforementioned moving rendition of Beautiful Child, were a stunning Stand Back and possibly the crowd favourite, Gold Dust Woman. This concert was unique - on top of being performed with the MSO, it was also being recorded for a future DVD release. It's here that the audience got a great surprise and bonus, After performing an encore of Rock and Roll and Beauty and the Beast, Stevie proceeded to tell us that the first two songs hadn't been recorded properly so she would have to perform them again. She asked if anyone wanted to leave they didn't have to stay for a repeat performance - as if that was ever going to happen!! So we were treated to a second encore comprising Outside The Rain and Dreams. Stevie was in fantastic voice for the entire evening and looks amazing- she was ably supported by her backing singers which included a welcome return to the fold for Lori Nicks. Will Stevie come Down Under again? I don't know but I feel so incredibly lucky, blessed and over the moon to have been part of a brilliant night. I'm going to her concert in Auckland and can't wait....
Gerard
I saw Stevie on Saturday 18th February at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne with the MSO. Stevie was seemed confident and relaxed immediately, Her voice was better than I've heard before. She seemed happy and friendly. A recording error meant the first 2 songs had to be repeated for the DVD production at the end of the concert. This did not faze Stevie. Thank you Stevie and band for coming downunder. Come again soon!
Phil & Di
The stevie show ... was great .... still has the magic and wowwww do we ever get sick of hearing that raspy voice ... lady has presence on stage ... just love her ... great backing band and the melbourne orchestra complimented the music. hope she comes back ?
Sue Bulman
Well I have to say that Stevie’s voice is getting better and better. When she was here in Melbourne two years ago with Fleetwood Mac she was fantastic, but last night she just surpassed those shows with a brilliant vocal performance that I will long remember. The show was with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and was being recorded for a DVD, which made it even more special to be a part of. Stevie’s warmth and charisma kept the audience captivated the entire performance with a great variety of song choices. The addition of “Beautiful Child” and Led Zepplin’s “Rock’n’Roll” were just added highlights of the show. Honestly if I had the money I would follow her around Australia and the World. I hope Stevie returns in the next year or so for a back up tour as she is much loved here.
Katrina & Tony
The concert Stevie performed on 18/2/2006 was fabulous. She was so professional, elegant, warm to the audience and very appreciative of the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra. The band were fantastic, Stevie's singing incredible. What a privilege to see such a legend perform. The passion she has for her work is amazing and can be felt as you watch and listen to her. Her song writing is so very thoughtful and reflective. A truly magical experience for my husband and I to see her. Thank you so much for coming to Australia Stevie.
Trudi & Malcolm
Have just come back from your Saturday 18th Feb gig at the Rod Laver Arena. My partner and I were mesmerised by your performance. You manage to encapsulate the entire genre of music from the raunchy and timeless, to the hypnotic ballads. You are the consummate professional, taking the gliche re: the DVD recording all in your stride. We were honoured to have been in your audience,
David Ward
LONG LIVE THE QUEEN OF ROCK AND ROLL AND LIVE PERFORMANCES!! Stevie Nicks at 57 you look fantastic, perform and sound amazing ,give such value for money and leave the wannabee's of today for dead . The show started with Outside The Rain and Dreams , then into some classic Fleetwood Mac tunes . Rhiannon with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra was brilliant and when Stevie went into the twirls with Stand Back i thought she was never going to stop. The song selection for the night was great with a few surprises,If Any One Falls and Beautiful Child, the only disappointment was no Sara . The Melbourne Symphony Orchestra added such amazing sound to the music giving Stevie the best of both worlds, them and her own band. The show finished with Beauty And The Beast and then another treat, they had missed the recording of the opening two songs so we got to see the guys perform these again. What a pity they didn't miss recording the whole show. Chris you let us down with the merchandise at the show though.Three t-shirts,a cap,a 2005 keyring witha picture of a gold dust bag,a teddy and a program with three pictures of Stevie and too many of her band.Considering it had been just on 20 years since Stevie's last solo tour here i did expect better. Stevie you didn't disappoint,we can hardly wait for the dvd and the cd to relive an amazing experience, what a treat the rest of Australia and New Zealand are in for. CONTINUE TO ROCK ON GOLD DUST WOMAN!!
